Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki said a sequel to FromSoftware’s open-world Soulslike isn’t being considered at the moment, Eurogamer reported.
Speaking with Game Watch at the PlayStation Partner Awards on Dec. 3, where Elden Ring expansion Shadow of the Erdtree was celebrated for its worldwide sales, Miyazaki nevertheless assured further work on the property isn’t out of the question. He also noted FromSoftware currently has several projects of different genres in development, one or more of which may involve the Armored Core franchise if a job listing for character modeling that mentions robots is to be extrapolated.
Shadow of the Erdtree’s success was so critically and commercially resounding upon release in June 2024 that it was nominated for Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards. Its inclusion has resulted in fans and critics alike debating whether expansions and DLC should be eligible for Game of the Year.
It’s clear a hunger for more Elden Ring exists, but as we’ve seen when FromSoftware followed up Bloodborne with Dark Souls 3 and then Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the acclaimed developer tends to zig where most folks demand they zag.
Further muddying the waters is FromSoftware’s potential to become part of the PlayStation family as Sony pursues acquisition of the studio’s parent company Kadokawa Corporation, which theoretically could mean another invested party begins directing or otherwise influencing FromSoft’s efforts.
