The price of a PlayStation 5 is going up again in some territories, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Sunday on its PlayStation Blog. Sony’s latest price increases went into effect on Monday, and affect customers in Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

Sony blamed “a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates” in a statement attributed to Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at SIE.

In Europe, the price of the PS5 Digital Edition is now €499.99. That’s a €50 increase, and now €100 more than the PS5 Digital Edition’s launch price in Europe, which was €399.99.

The U.K. is getting a pricier PS5 Digital Edition too; it’s now £429.99. That’s an extra £40 compared to what the console cost last week, and £70 more than the console’s original price in the U.K., £359.99.

In Australia and New Zealand, both the PS5 Digital Edition and the standard PS5 (with a 4K Blu-ray disc drive) are getting price increases. Here’s how the price changes work in each country:

Australia

  • Standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc drive: AU$829.95 (+AU$30)
  • PS5 Digital Edition: AU$749.95 (+AU$100)

New Zealand

  • Standard PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive: NZ$949.95 (+NZ$50)
  • PS5 Digital Edition: NZ$859.95 (+NZ$90)

The price of the PlayStation 5 Pro is not changing in any of those regions.

One piece of PS5 hardware that’s getting less expensive is the console’s 4K Blu-ray drive add-on. Here are the new prices:

  • Europe: €79.99
  • U.K.: £69.99
  • Australia: AU$124.95
  • New Zealand: NZ$139.95

Sony previously raised the price of the PlayStation 5 in Canada, Mexico, Europe, the U.K., Australia, Japan, and China back in 2022. At the time, SIE then-president Jim Ryan blamed “challenging economic conditions,” including global inflation rates and adverse currency trends.

As with the price bumps issued in 2022, customers in the U.S. have avoided seeing a price increase on PS5 consoles in this round. Sony appears to be protecting its biggest market from price hikes by offloading the impact of President Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs scheme (and its effect on exchange rates) to other territories.
