Nintendo Switch 2 Tariff Pre-Order Delay Hits Canada Too

Gamers shared a collective howl of pain last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date went from April 9 to "who the hell knows?" after import tariffs enacted by President Trump sent financial markets spiraling, and the issue has spread across the border. Nintendo Canada confirmed that pre-orders are also delayed there, so you can forget all about making a pre-order via your cousin that lives in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025 in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," Nintendo of Canada said in a statement to Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."

It's an echo of the statement given to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, though the Canadian version doesn't specifically mention new tariffs.

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

While tomorrow marks the original pre-order launch, there's still no word on when we can expect to start desperately refreshing our browsers and checking our credit card security numbers, leaving gamers in limbo and concerned about a possible increase on the initially announced price of $449.99.

As for other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders went live in the UK today, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths experiencing selling out quickly and scalpers taking to eBay to sell their pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, compared to the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
