Season 1 of Marvel Rivals, formally titled Eternal Night Falls, brings a whopping four new characters to the game, as well as a new series of maps. These additions will roll out across a two-part season that developer NetEase Games said has “double the playable content of a regular season.”
In season 1, you can take to the streets of New York City as Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four. All four members — Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing — will make their debut throughout season 1, and the story will focus on Dracula’s invasion of the city, as well as the disappearance of Doctor Strange.

What to expect from Marvel Rivals season 1
The first half of season 1 introduces two new characters: Mister Fantastic (aka Reed Richards) and the Invisible Woman (aka Sue Storm).
Mister Fantastic is a duelist who uses his stretchy powers to punch enemies from afar, bonk their heads together, and repel incoming attacks. The Invisible Woman is a strategist whose able to place shields in front of her allies, turn invisible, and push her enemies around the battlefield. It’s currently unclear if the husband and wife duo of Marvel’s first family will bring any new Team-Up abilities to the game.
The first half of Marvel Rivals season 1 will also introduce two of the game’s three New York-based maps.
- Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown is a new convoy map where you’ll need to escort the Fantastic Four’s beloved assistant robot — H.E.R.B.I.E. — from the Baxter Building to Avenger’s Tower.
- Sanctum Sanctorum is the second new map, acting as an arcade map and hosting the new Doom Match mode.
The start of season 1 will also feature all the regular seasonal goodies, like a minor rank reset and a battlepass that includes 10 hero costumes.
The second half of Marvel Rivals season 1 will add the Thing (aka Ben Grimm) and the Human Torch (aka Johnny Storm) as new characters, bringing the game’s total hero count to 37. It’ll also add the third New York City map, Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park.
NetEase Games said it will reveal more about the second half of season 1 — including details on how Ben and Johnny will play — before the update launches in late February.
