Pixar’s upcoming animated show will no longer include a transgender storyline, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This comes on the heels of Disney pulling an episode of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which also included a trans storyline.

A representative for Disney told the Hollywood Reporter that, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.” This is similar to the statement Disney made about the removed episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, though the company insisted that the episode’s removal had nothing to do with the trans storyline and that it is simply being “held.” Like with Win or Lose, the spokesperson said that Disney is “respectful of the role that parents play in the discussions they have with their children.”

Win or Lose, Pixar’s upcoming television series, is set to debut in February. It will follow a middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game, with each episode following a different member of the team and told through different visual styles. The show was first announced in 2020, with an initial release date of 2023, before being pushed to 2024 and now again to 2025.

The character in question has not been entirely cut from the show, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, a few lines about their gender identity have been removed. The decision was made several months ago. Disney has not responded to Polygon’s request for comment.

Disney has a history of removing LGBTQ+ content from its shows and movies, be it editing moments out of international releases, giving studio notes to make characters appear “less gay,” or, in the case of Moon Girl and the Devil Dinosaur, pulling episodes entirely. But animators and other creatives working for Disney have pushed back. In 2022, after former CEO Bob Chapek’s milquetoast response to Disney donating money to legislators who supported Florida’s controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill, a group of Pixar employees penned a letter calling Chapek out for erasing even the tiniest drip of queer content

Win or Lose will hit Disney Plus on Feb. 19, 2025.
