The Andor season 2 trailer looks like a blast, even for Star Wars’ darkest show

Andor season 2 is finally here… and looks like a lot of fun? Despite being depressing as hell?

The Star Wars series was planned by creator Tony Gilroy as a two-season, 24-episode series. While various hiccups have delayed the series, including Gilroy’s frankly inspiring involvement in the 2023 WGA strike, the back half of Andor is finally in the can and ready to release this April. And the first trailer for season 2 rocks in unexpected ways — thanks in large part to Steve Earle’s rollicking tune “The Revolution Starts Now.”

In an interview with Polygon after Andor season 1, Gilroy said he saw the first half of the show as being all about Cassian’s building up the confidence to take the “blood oath” of becoming a rebel. Season 2 will see him inch closer and closer to where we saw him in Star Wars: Rogue One, and track how he became a true leader. It’ll also have tons of time jumps.

“We come back a year later, many things have changed,” Gilroy said of the plotting. “And we’ll do three episodes, and we’ll jump a year. And we’ll do another three episodes, and we’ll jump a year. And we’ll come back to the final four episodes, and those episodes will be the last three days really before Rogue One, and the final scene of the show will be walking you into Rogue One.”

As the trailer teases, expect to see Cassian, Saw Gerrera, and Luthen Rael all rallying the people of the galaxy in their attempt to “build a coalition,” as Gilroy puts it. And they’ll have a strong adversary: Ben Mendelsohn, who played Imperial swine Orson Krennic in Rogue One, is set to return in all his caped glory.

Andor season 2 premieres on Disney Plus on April 22.
