Well-done steak is a hunting item that you get by grilling meat in Monster Hunter Wilds. Well-done steak is a consumable that will keep your health and stamina maxed out during a hunt without the need to cook a full meal.

Our Monster Hunter Wilds guide will tell you all about well-done steaks including where to get the raw ingredients for it and how to time the grilling perfectly.

What are well-done steaks in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Well-done steaks are a hunting item consumable. When you’re out in the field, eating them will restore your health and stamina, and (slightly) increase your max of both. You can get them by grilling raw meat.

Grilling the raw meat hunting item gets you a new consumable item — rare steak, well-done steak, or burnt meat depending on how well you do it.

There are a few versions of steaks you can end up with and each have a slightly different effect:

  • Rare steak restores health and stamina, and temporarily increases your max health
  • Well-done steaks restores health and stamina, and restores both gauges
  • Burnt meat restores stamina

When can you get well-done steaks in Monster Hunter Wilds?

With everything in hand, it’s time to start grilling. At the portable BBQ grill, choose the grill meat option.

You can’t grill meat in your tent. It has to be out in the wild (even just as soon as step outside of your tent in a camp). And, before you can grill meat, you’ll need to have raw meat in your item pouch (not just in your item box).

Choosing the grill meat option starts a minigame of sorts. You’ll have to watch your character as they wave the meat around above the grill and then hit the X/A button at the right time. If you hit the button way too early, you won’t get anything. If you hit it just a little early, you’ll get a couple raw steaks along with a few well-done steaks. Doing well gets you six well-done steaks per raw meat. Too late, and you’ll get a mix of well-done steaks and burnt meat.

To time it perfectly, you have to watch the meat carefully. Wait for your character to flip the meat over. Just a second after that, the texture of the meat will change. Hit the button as soon as you see that change. That will consistently get you the full six well-done steaks.

It’s easy to miss, but there’s a second stage to the grilling minigame that starts right after. When your character starts to cut up the well-done steaks, you can hit the X/A button in time with the music and cuts to get a few extra. Do it perfectly, and you’ll get a total of 12 well-done steaks.
